PostSubject: The City of Angles (Los Angeles)   Fri Mar 29, 2013 3:59 pm

Jake yawned and rolled over on to his side... almost falling over the edge of the ledge where he had been sleeping. Steadying himself with his hand he glanced around. He was on the roof of the small light house at the end of the San Monica pier. "I keep awaking up in the weirdest places." Jake muttered rubbing his face. Check all around to make sure no one was watching he hopped off the roof. Spreading his wings as he fell to slow his descent he landed on the wooden pier and quickly left the scene. Retrieving his sunglasses from his collar he put them on and continued to walk down the pier, hands in his pockets, head down. After walking about 30 feet he became aware of the unfortunate fact that his shoes and socks appeared to be missing. He rubbed his temple in frustration but kept walking. It was around 8 in the morning and the sun had just risen over the clear Pacific Ocean. He flashed a smile at a group of girls who stared at him (most likely because of his missing shoes, he thought) and exited the pier. He strolled across the beach letting the warm sand heat his exposed feet. Approaching a snack bar with a straw roof he fished a few dollars from a pocket. "Coffee." He said bluntly, rubbing his temple again. The man behind the counter took the money without a word and went to work. Jake leaned on the bar of the snack shack and scanned his surroundings from under his sunglasses. Another day begins.

Nyx twisted around a corner a giddy grin on his face. With inhuman agility he quickly grasped stones and ledges climbing without pause to the roof, he leapt from top to top looking back before hiding against the side of a chimney. "hehehe." He moved a jet black strand of hair out of his face his black nails slipping into his pockets.

Demmetias grumbled and sprinted around the corner, the erasers already far back, unable to keep up. His pistol out Demmetias peered around for the runaway. "kssst. On the Roof." His radio told him buzzing on. "Gaah." He muttered aiming his hands down and forcing a blast of energy into the concrete, propelling him p into the air. Landing on the roof he peered once again for the boy, catching him dart behind a Chimney. "Hands up." He ordered a Cynical snarl dragging out on his voice. Pistol Raised he kept his left hand aimed forwards making his way for the chimney.

Jake heard his coffee being placed on the bar. He turned and grabbed it with one hand, leaving the other still in his pocket. He didn't wait for the coffee to cool and took a long sip. He couldn't afford to wait, he needed the nutrients. Just one of the many changes he had the School to thank. Speaking of which, his stomach was already grumbling. 'I need to find some food or some money,' Jake thought taking another sip. His eyes moved across the beach and near by street. Suddenly something caught his eyes and he did a double take. Two figures were on a near by roof. One looked like he was holding a gun. Jake shot looks at everyone nearby. 'Was no one else seeing this?' Jake thought surprised. He strugged finally and turned around, leaning his back on the bar. He continued to watch the scene and took another sip of coffee. "Things just got interesting." He muttered with a smirk.

Aisling crept around the back of the building, trying to stay out of sight and still be able to watch Demmetias to make sure everything was going according to plan. She closed her eyes and searched around the area, sensing the signature of the runaway and finding it very quickly from above. She looked around, seeing a shadow on the roof the building Demmetias was running past. "Gotcha," she whispered. She pulled out her radio and said, "On the roof," and watched as Demmetias swiftly bolted himself up and engaged the experiment.

There was something off, though. She felt an experiment's signature from behind. Aisling frowned and closed her eyes, trying to pick out the experiment's location to make sure she wasn't wrong, not that she ever had been wrong before. She sensed three clear signature's this time. Demmetias', the runaway's, and one she didn't recognize. She turned around trying to find it, scanning the crowd before seeing a rather handsome, barefooted teenager watching them. That was it. She turned back and looked at Demmetias and considered radio-ing him, but figured he was busy. She didn't want to distract him. After thinking a moment, she turned and ran off to confront the other experiment, hoping that Demmetias had everything under control. He usually did.

"This needs sugar." Jake muttered into his lukewarm coffee. He turned his eyes from the action for a moment to grab a sugar packet from the bar. When he turned back a young woman across the street caught his eye. 'She looks familiar,' he thought,'Do I know her from somewhere? Wait.... Is she looking at me?' Even from across all this distance Jake could tell her focus was trained on him. 'Aaaaaand she's coming over here. No problem, simple test. Leave the area, if she follows, she's an agent and I can deal with her accordingly.' Jake pushed off the counter and power walked across the beach, coffee still in hand. 'Head down. Walk with purpose.' Thoughts moved through his head like bees in a hive. He glanced up and saw a large and quite loud crowd of teenagers walking down the sidewalk between the beach and the street. "Prefect. Moving cover." Jake said to himself as he quickened his pace. Leaving the smooth sand for the hard pavement he fell in step with the group. He kicked a metal can out of his way. 'That would not feel good barefoot.' He thought bitterly.

'Shit,' Aisling thought as she watched the other experiment quickly walk off and blend in with a group of teenagers. Aisling turned back to Demmetias before pulling out her radio again. "Found another experiment. I'm pursuing him to the north and west," she said into it, then clipping it back onto her belt and walking off at a fast pace without waiting for a response. She wasn't going to completely run after him yet, that would draw unwanted attention, but she walked quickly enough to catch up with the crowd he was in. Aisling looked through the crowd before recognizing the experiment.

She tried to casually blend in with the teens, looking pretty young herself, and grabbed the experiment by his wrist and smiled sweetly, twirling a lock of hair between her fingers. She barely managed to not scowl at having to act so vapid, but it was the only thing she could think of that wouldn't draw too much attention on short notice. "Can we talk?" she asked, making her voice high-pitched and sweet, hoping the experiment would but into it..

Jake smiled, he was pretty satisfied with himself. He was home free. That was until he suddenly felt his wrist gripped by someone. His eyes widened and spun around. The owner of the hand was of course the girl from before. Jake's heart started to beat fast. His free hand held his coffee so he used his thumb to pop the lip of his coffee off. "You better let go of my hand or you're getting a face full of coffee dude." Jake said through gritted teeth.

'Damn it!' Aisling thought. The group of teenagers had mostly moved on and she let the insipid grin fall from her face. She moved the openings of her light coat enough to the side to reveal her knife and lightly laid a hand on it. "Try it and see how far you get," she said coldly. "I know how to use this knife, and have a friend just over there that could be here in an instant if you tried anything. Plus, there's a nice group of Erasers that would love a chance to have to chase you down." Aisling carefully probed the boy's emotions and began subtly pushing fear at him, hoping to intimidate him enough to come quietly.

Jake felt the cold grip of fear seap into his brain. This only helped to highten his panic. He had to act fast or the group would be all over their position. He had to get away. His survival instinct kicked in and without hesitation he flicked his hand and sent the coffee flying into the girl's face. He tossed the cup to the side and used his free hand to push the girl back hard. He spun his other hand desperately trying to break out of her grasp.

Aisling shut her eyes quickly as she realized her mistake. Messing with emotions like fear and anger was always tricky because people would often react in the exact opposite way she wanted them to, especially considering she always forgot to factor panic into the equation. But, it was too late and soon there was hot coffee burning her face and dripping down onto her shirt and she was being pushed backwards. She only stumbled, though, and managed to quickly regain her balance and began chasing him again, trying to stay on his trail. She pursued him, narrowing her focus down so it seemed that he and she were the only things in existence, finally getting close enough to reach out and grab him by the shirt, clenching her fist in the fabric so tightly she could feel her nails digging into her palm from through the material.

Once successfully breaking free Jake bolted. Ducking around pedestrians, hopping over benches, zigging around palm trees; Jake did anything to get away from the agent on his tail. 'She's not that bad looking though...No! Now is not the time.' Jake thought to himself. Unfortunately he clearly wasn't fast enough because he suddenly felt himself yanked back by his neck. "Get lost!" He snarled turning around and aiming a punch straight at her face. "Help! She's trying to kill me!" He yelled as loud as he could. Hopefully he could turn the crowds on the side walk against her allowing himself time to escape. He was running out of options.

Aisling ducked under the punch, lifting her unoccupied arm up so the punch caught her forearm, not her face. She scowled heavily, realizing this could quickly escalate into a fight she'd really wanted to avoid today.

She frowned further as the experiment yelled for help from the pedestrians. This was why the number one rule of capturing experiments was to always try and be isolated. But, this wasn't the worst situation she could have been in. She carefully pushed waves of 'calm' out around her and donned her most charming smile. "Don't listen to him," she said, just loudly enough for the people to hear. "He's not quite right," there she smiled apologetically. "My little brother here has Korsakoff's Syndrome. He forgets things a lot and doesn't know what's happening. He left this morning and I've been searching everywhere for him!" Hopefully no one actually knew what Korsakoff's was... Aisling thought To be safe, Aisling tried to calm the crowd just a bit more, being careful to not do too much. A lot of times when there were multiple people, the results of messing with their emotions could be extremely unpredictable.

'Great, now I sound like I'm crazy.' Jake though to himself. Bring his hand back he looked her up and down quickly. "She's lying!" He called out if only to save face. He quickly brought his left leg up then aimed a kick at the woman's gut, hoping to surprise her. If only he could find an open spot then he could fly out of here.

Aisling smiled as he cried out that she was lying. Once she'd pulled the mental illness card, there was next to nothing he could say that would make the civilians believe him. She'd won, and started to pull him back with her, until suddenly she felt something collide solidly with her diaphragm, knocking the wind out of her She coughed as the was expelled from her lungs and doubled over. She cursed before straightening back up and looking through the crowd of people now gathered around for him. When she saw him, she took off at top speed, her long white hair flying behind her, and ran straight for the spot in the crowd he'd disappeared into and the people all moved out of her way, seeming to understand she would gladly run them down to get to her goal.

"Enough of this," she muttered when she finally got near him again, this time away from any bystanders and quickly aimed a blow to his head wanting this to be over so she could call Demmetias to pick them up and take them home.

Jake breathed loudly as he ran, his bare feet making a slapping sound as he torn down the sidewalk. People parted for him and he let out a slight laugh, he was going to make it. Suddenly he saw stars as the agent's fist connected with the back of his skull. Lossing his balance he tumbled forward and rolled over the pavement. He gasped in pain and rolled over onto his back. He raised both his hands at the agent. "Check mate." He stated gruffly as he used his telekinesis powers on the women to send her flying back. Clutching his bruised arm he flipped over and got to his feet in a hurry. He staggered a bit, slightly dizzy.

Aisling smiled in triumph when she heard the sound of her fist hitting flesh and saw the experiment fall to the ground. She started to drop to her knees to bind and knock the experiment out when he suddenly got a smug look on his face and muttered something. Then, she was flying through the air and everything went black for a moment when her head struck the cement. "Mmnnggg," she groaned when her vision came back and rolled on her stomach and pushed herself up to sitting position, before stopping, feeling like she was going to puke. She put a hand at the back of her head and pulled it back, seeing it covered in blood. She looked around, seeing the experiment was long gone, as expected. She growled in anger, before forcibly calming herself.

She closed her eyes and tried to get a read on his location, making sure the signature she focused on wasn't Demmetias or the other experiment. When she got a hold of where he was and where he was heading, she cross-referenced that with her memory of the LA streets, thankful, not for the first time, for her near perfect memory. Aisling made herself stand up despite her dizzyness and head-wound, and figured out a back way to where the experiment seemed to be going so she could intercept him and starting running that way.

Jake looked down and spotted his destination. He tucked in his wings and went into a steap dive. He pulled up just in time and landed a little awkwardly behind some trees. He adjusted his sun glasses and rubbed his shoulder. He could feel two large bruises starting to form where he hit the ground and where the agent hit him. He signed heavily. At least he had escaped. Brushing some dust off his jeans and hoodie he walked around the tree and onto the lawn of the Griffith Observatory. To the left, along the ridge the building was situated on, Jake could see the Hollywood sign. Below, all of LA was spread out before him. Jake took stock of the situation, the building was open and groups of tourist milled about. The observatory was after all a popular destination. Jake zero'd in on an unattended backpack and nonchalantly grabbed it as he walked by it. Continuing to walk he rummaged through it until he located the wallet inside. He dumped the backpack in a trash can and headed for the restaurant located inside the building, his stomach was grumbling more then ever.

The building rattled and Nyx cried out. Suddenly Nyx's body was blasted off the top of the building where it hit the cement. Demmetias jumped down spotting Nyx trying to heal himself from the force of the shock wave. With a grumble he shot the experiment with 3 sedative darts and grabbed his back, throwing the body over his shoulder. Looking up he spotted Aisling and blinked. "you look rough... what happened?" He asked walking over. "Need me to call help?" He asked.

"No," Aisling replied. "No need to call back-up. There's another experiment in the vicinity. I think if we both go, we'll be fine." She closed her eyes and tried to sense where he was again. "I think he's stopped somewhere near the Observatory. We could surround him if we both go in opposite directions. I don't think he expects me to back on his trail so soon, so if we move quickly we can get him." Aisling was bouncing on her toes in her eagerness to find and capture the experiment. No one had gotten away from her yet, and she didn't plan to let this boy be the first. "Oh, and he has some telekinesis, so beware."

Haine slipped quietly up beside Demmetias, her hood pulled up to conceal most of her face, she didn't need the humans seeing her lovely red eyes and fangs. "This ones a little slippery eh?" she snickered to the pair of scientists, her mouth twisting into her usual cruel grin. There was slight movement in the alley behind her, a few gruff male heads poking around the corner, some of their eyes yellow, some red. This was her ever obedient group of bone headed Erasers, sometimes she was embarrassed to be the same species as them. In the lead male's grasp was a squirming white haired experiment of which they had caught a little earlier that day. "I don't suppose you require our assistance yet?" she mused, inspecting her claw like nails before turning her face to the sky. The light from the sun made her pupils turn to small slits, she appeared relaxed and almost bored. These missions always were a little boring, but usually provided good exercise and a break from normal routine.

Eden let out a small sigh, finally giving up on his fight... err squirming. This had been a stupid idea in the first place, he should have known better than to slip away during the security system check. His wide yellow eyes looked about, staring at the vile female eraser and then over to the scientists, finally his eyes rested on the experiments who was slung over the man's shoulder. Today looked to be a collection day, which was to be expected after their little security slip. "Urg." he mumbled, his tail twitching behind him. Stupid, stupid, stupid....

"That will be $63.50." The bored cashier said in a monotone voice. Jake flipped a 50 and a 20 out of the stolen wallet and handed it to the clerk. The woman took the money and look down at the two trays piled high with food that Jake was pushing. "You eating with someone? You look kinda skinny to be eating all that." Jake shrugged off. "Yeah I have a friend waiting." He lied. The woman handed him his change and lost interest in Jake immediately. Jake grabbed his two trays and quickly walked off to find a table, glad the woman didn't notice his bare feet. He located an empty booth in a quiet part of the restaurant. His booth was next to the large floor to ceiling window that spanned the length of the restaurant. Outside the window was a panorama view of the LA area. This was one of the reason's Jake liked the Observatory. There were people who paid millions to wake up to views like this. Sliding into his booth he quickly profiled everyone in his field of view then glanced at the exits. Satisfied, he relaxed against the upholstery of the booth and removed his sunglasses. He placed the glasses in his collar and raised the hood of his hoodie. Slowly a smirk crossed Jake's face as he examined the feast before himself. "Not bad. Not bad at all." He muttered as he started to wolf down the food ravenously.

Aisling turned and glared at Haine, meeting her red eyes from where they were concealed. "No," she responded coldly. "We've got this covered. We don't need your kind of help just yet." Aisling made sure to angle herself so that Haine wouldn't be able to see where her head had struck the ground; she knew the blood would be clearly visible in her white hair and didn't want to have to deal with Haine's smug looks. "Just make sure you've got your part covered," Aisling continued, shooting a meaningful look at the squirming experiment. Suddenly, she felt the experiment they'd been tracking stop moving. "He's stopped," she announced, turning to Demmetias. "We need to move now before he runs again."

Jake took a long drink from the tall glass of orange juice as he watched a passing bird outside. 'That bird is more free then I'll ever be.' He thought exhaling slightly, a cruel smirk formed as he turned back to his food. He pulled the plate containing his second omelette closer to himself and began to eat again, but slowly this time, thoughtfully. The meal probably wouldn't last him half a day but he would sure try and make ever bite count. He thought back to what he saw earlier this morning. 'Those two figures on the roof? Was it a capture in progress? Or an assassination? Did it even have anything to do with the School or Itex? And that woman, how did she pick me out of the crowd? The School probably has a photo of me on file, but still... And the much bigger question; how was the School even tracking me in the first place? Are they hacking security cameras? Are they getting tips from the authorities?... Did they plant something in me?' That last thought disturbed Jake the most. Slipping a knife from the table into his pocket he continued to eat.

Demmetias turned to Haine and shook his head. "I do suppose i wouldnt mind someone carrying the extra weight." Demmetias tossed Nyx to Haine and looked towards the observatory. "You lead the way Aisling" He offered reaching his hand down to help her up. Field work was always a pain. Sitting in the lab was what Demmetias liked... But this is what he got for giving himself powers...

Nyx noticed his weight shift and a pair of arms catch him. The smells changed, from Demmetias's strong Scent to a much lighter one. He fought to locate the poison in his body, draining it out as much as he could. Within seconds he managed to get his vision and mouth back. He opened his eyes and peered up. Definitely a Female. Weakly he pushed his arm into the girls chest, since Dem had just thrown him, Nyx managed to roll out of her arms and fall to the cement ground. He didnt mind the pain, he just wanted to get away. "Dammit..." He murmured too weak to even crawl. He couldnt get the sedative out fast enough. He rolled onto his back and looked up at the girl. They just had to send him with a girl good enough looking that he couldnt hit...

We flatter those we scarcely know,
We please the fleeting guest,
And deal full many a thoughtless blow
To those who love us best.

Aisling accepted Demmetias' hand, pulling herself back to her feet, though her pride was hurt at needing help get up. She looked around for a second, trying to figure the best way to get to where the experiment had stopped. "This way," she eventually decided, pointing down a road and walking quickly in that direction. "I think he's somewhere near the observatory..." Her powers were never extremely accurate until she got close enough to whomever she was tracking, but they could get her to where she needed to be. As she walked, she pulled a ponytail holder off her wrist where she kept extras and pulled her hair up into a bun. She didn't need it getting in her way if they got into a fight.
